Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/27/2023
A rich hockey tradition going back to the late-19th century with the Winnipeg Victorias, the Peg is currently the NHL city with the longest Stanley Cup drought, last winning the prestigious trophy in 1902. With the Jets entering the WHA as an original member in 1972-73, the team is the winningest throughout the league's history, crowned Avco Cup champions in three of the seven seasons the rebel league trophy was presented. Hockey’s first million-dollar man, Bobby Hull shocked the hockey world when he announced that he would be leaving the NHL to accept the offer from the Winnipeg Jets in 1972. This photo of the 1972-73 inaugural season WHA Winnipeg Jets has been team-signed. At approx 8 1/2" x 11", the full team is depicted on the ice surface of the Winnipeg Arena, with the players all listed beneath the image. 22 have signed over his respective image in blue ballpoint, including Hull, Daley, Sutherland, McDonald, Wakely and others, with the signatures displaying beautifully. The photo itself shows just a bit of wear including a small crease over the bottom left corner. An LOA from Classic Auctions will accompany.
