Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/27/2023
The brother of the winning goal scorer of the longest overtime game in 1936, the Detroit Red Wings Mud Bruneteau, John Bruneteau hailed from Winnipeg's famous French suburb St Boniface, and played junior hockey with the Elmwood Millionaires in the late-1920s. In the mid-1930s, Bruneteau would skate for the historic 1920 Olympic gold medal winning Winnipeg Falcons, where he was presented with this Bison statue trophy in 1934-35 for the Falcon's status as Manitoba Senior champions. At just under 4" in height, and sporting a detailed metal bison figure - the symbol for Manitoba - mounted to a small wooden base, a small plaque with crossed hockey sticks atop the base has "Falcon Seniors - M.A.H.A. Champs - J. Bruneteau - 1934-35" engraved. The small keepsake exhibits minor surface wear, and presents beautifully.
