Enjoying a 14-year National Hockey League career with twelve (12) of those spent wearing the uniform of the Toronto Maple Leafs, Tomas Kaberle would finally experience Stanley Cup glory, winning the first and only Cup of his career as a member of the Boston Bruins in 2011. Currently the 2nd highest scoring defenceman in Maple Leafs history behind HHOFer Borje Salming, up for grabs here is this Toronto Maple Leafs third jersey worn by Kaberle during his rookie season of 1998-99 that has been photo-matched to his 1st NHL game and video-matched to his 1st NHL goal. Made by Nike, combined brand and size “56” labeling is affixed to the inner collar along with a “Center Ice Authentic” tag and a mostly worn away “NHL Player” heat pressed label. Sporting both the NHL shield and Nike Swoosh logos embroidered into the reverse hem, the front of the tie-neck style garment has been decorated with a vintage style Maple Leafs team crest that has “Toronto Maple Leafs” and other details embroidered into it. Displaying the all-important final season at Maple Leaf Gardens patch over the right breast, the sleeves and verso have been accented with Kaberle’s number “15” in single layer blue twill numerals while “Kaberle” has been spelt out in matching style across the affixed matching nameplate. Worn in selected games against Original Six teams leading up to the closing of the Gardens, the jersey shows good game-wear via stick marks and board burns over both sleeves with a couple of light stick marks and fabric pulls observed over the front as well. Showing additional use through red paint transfers over the left elbow and additional fabric pulls present throughout, pilling is also found on the interior while staining is seen over the front. Having had a Leafs team tag denoting the jersey as a “1998-1999 Game Worn Commemorative Set” offering sewn inside the front hem, a Leafs LOA signed by then President, Ken Dryden, will accompany the piece.
Regarding the photo and video matches, the jersey is matched with Getty Image #1300413256 (October 10th, 1998 vs Detroit - 1st NHL Game) to the mostly washed out stick mark in the bottom white stripe at the left elbow. Additionally, the jersey is video-matched to a screen shot from Kaberle's 1st NHL goal to the placement of the nameplate on the reverse in correlation to the numbers on the reverse. Additionally, Getty Image # #1297690712 (November 7th, 1998 vs New York) is matched to the assorted dark stick marks over the right elbow.
