Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/27/2023
Bringing his superstardom and hockey dominance to the bright lights and sunny skies of Los Angeles for the 1988-89 season due to a trade that summer, Wayne Gretzky would fully cement himself in Hollywood during his first season, registering 168 points in 78 games played, more than enough to claim his ninth Hart Memorial as MVP. Offered here, is this stick used by “The Great One” during his first season with the Kings. A Titan TPM2020 model with “W. Gretzky” stamped to the upper shaft, the stick retains Wayne’s original gripper over the handle/knob while the blade tape has been removed (the residue of which is still very much visible) to facilitate Gretzky’s bold black marker ink signature that displays well with only very light fading from age in parts. Showing a factory pattern code of “1-002” stamped over the underside of the stick near the heel and a date code of “178810” on the backside of the lower shaft, the stick shows use via a few black stick and puck marks over the shaft, lower shaft and heel. A spectacular offering from the best player to ever grace the ice of the National Hockey League.
