Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/27/2023
Combining strong physical play with exceptional scoring abilities to serve as the only player in NHL history with over 600 goals and 2,000 penalty minutes, Brendan Shanahan won a trio of Stanley Cup championships with Detroit, along with gold medals at the World Championships, Canada Cup and Winter Olympics while representing Canada. Offered here, is this stick used by Shanahan during the 2001-02 season as a member of the Detroit Red Wings and is attributed to having been used by Shanny in Detroit’s January 12th, 2002 game vs Dallas in which he recorded his 1000th career point. Though no footage is clear enough to try and match the stick offered here to the point itself, it is worth mentioning that you can see that he is using the same model of stick offered here during that moment. An Easton Classic Silver Tip model, “Shanahan” is stamped to the stem of the inserted wooden Easton blade while the stick retains its original black tape job over the handle/knob while the blade tape has been removed to facilitate Shanny’s flowing black marker ink signature over the forehand side of the blade. Displaying a handwritten notation of “102” in thin black ink over the butt end, the date in which Shanahan recorded his 1000th career point, “1/12/02”, is penned in matching style on the underside of the upper shaft. Sporting good game-use, the stick shows darkening to the shaft, heaviest near the middle and lower parts while dark coloured marks and abrasions are seen over both sides of the blade along with black tape residue.
