Up there with some of the earliest programs that we have ever offered, up for grabs here is this desirable Edmonton Eskimos vs Calgary Tigers program that hails from the 1925-26 season of play in the old WCHL (West Coast Hockey League). Displaying ornate printed decorations over the front with a decree of “Professional Hockey” over the front, the match took place at Edmonton Gardens (then known as Ice Palace Arena) between the Eskimos and Tigers on Friday, February 26th, 1926 and featured HOFer Eddie Shore in the lineup (this was the year before Shore would break into the NHL with the Boston Bruins). At roughly 7” x 10” the four page relic features the game’s line-up at the center, with an interesting ad endorsed by HOFer Barney Stanley on the back cover. A number of additional HOF members participated in the match, including Eddie Shore, Duke Keats and the aforementioned Barney Stanley for the Eskimos, along with Red Dutton, Herb Gardiner and Harry Oliver for the Tigers. Surviving admirably, the program exhibits handling wear with some creasing and toning taking place along with a couple of tears observed at the staples and the edge of both the front and back cover.
Also included with the lot is a July 1929 Bell Syndicate stock certificate and application that has been signed by Shore. Perhaps poor timing due to the Wall Street Crash that would happen just a few months later and signalled the beginning of The Great Depression, the stock originally cost Eddie a sum of $100. Both measuring 8 1/2" x 10 3/4" the application remains in excellent condition with expected folding creases, handling wear and toning while a small corner fold is found at the reverse top left corner. For the certificate, a few small tears are seen along the fold lines as well as corner folds, small edge tears, toning and spotting/foxing. Shore's name is printed in fountain pen on the certificate, and he has signed and addressed his application. A nice HOF-worthy piece indeed. Shore's Bell Syndicated certificate shows that he was the holder of one unit of Bell Syndicate, giving him 600 shares in Spa Oils. In fountain pen is the date (July 4), and signed by the Bell Syndicate General Manager and Manager. On the application, along with Shore's address in Alberta, is the handwritten number of units (One (1), along with a witness's signature and the $100 amount.
