Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/27/2023
The key card in O-Pee-Chee’s 1971-72 hockey card set features Ken Dryden, the giant goaltender who helped the Montreal Canadiens be pro hockey’s most successful team during the 1970s, backstopping the Habs to six Stanley Cup triumphs during his eight seasons – extraordinary. Actually, it was just seven full seasons after his six regular season contests (all wins!) and 20 playoff games in the spring of 1971. Having been assessed a grade of VG-EX 4 by the graders at PSA, this copy of Ken’s coveted first-year cardboard shows pleasing centering over the front and vivid colours while sporting some edge and corner wear all the way around along with some light toning. On the reverse, edge and corner wear/dings are present as well. Housed in a PSA holder that appears to be flawless, the still attractive rookie card and others from the set were pulled from packs during Ken’s official rookie season, even though he had already won a first Stanley Cup and had been named the recipient of the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP. A legend who did things like no other during the era!
