Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/27/2023
Is there any doubt that Robert Marvin Hull was/is the greatest left winger in hockey history? Definitely not in our minds and those of the vast majority of hockey observers/experts/historians. And we love how a Topps writer of the day described teenage Bobby on the back of his coveted 1958-59 rookie card, the text reading "Only 18 when he joined Hawks last year, Bobby is blond husky of brilliant promise." Brilliant indeed in ensuing years was Hull, particularly in the 1960s when he tied and then broke the single-season record for goals, before bettering his own record with an NHL career high of 58 in '68-69. This example of card #66 scored VG-EX 4 upon inspection by PSA, sporting a front image that is off-center from right-to-left with light corner wear/dings also exhibited as well as a wrinkle along the top edge above the “H” in “Hull” and small surface scratch near the top of the Black Hawks crest. Housed in a recent PSA holder that shows a small number of imperfections worth mentioning, the rookie card of one of hockey's most feared shots will be a shot to your RC/Hull/vintage card repertoire.
