Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/27/2023
Enjoying a National Hockey League career that saw him play in a total of 1,353 games over the course of 21-years in the league, Ron Stewart would suit up for six different NHL clubs in that time frame, winning a trio of Stanley Cups with the Toronto Maple Leafs from 1962 to 1964. Offered here, is this collection of nine (9) letters sent by various former NHL teammates or friends to Stewarts son calling for Ron’s induction into the Hockey Hall of Fame. All found over standard 8 ½” x 11” sheets of paper with some handwritten and others typed, the letters all date from between November of 1998 to March of 1999 and include examples sent by now deceased HOFers such as Boom Boom Geoffrion, George Armstrong and Johnny Bower as well still with us inductees including Dave Keon and John Bucyk. Joined by other documents from Eddie Litzenberger, Carl Brewer, Sid Smith and Alf Pike, each player has hand signed the end of each letter with either a blue or black ballpoint pen signature with all nine autographs displaying well and remaining legible despite some light fading from age being exhibited. Addressed to either the selection committee or Stewart’s son Jeff, the likes of Geoffrion, Bower, Keon, Bucyk, Brewer and Pike have typed out their letters with the Bucyk and Brewer examples on Boston Bruins and personal letterhead respectively while Armstrong, Litzenberger and Pike have hand written their calls of nomination. All remaining in good condition and telling tales of how Stewart contributed to teams and was more importantly a good teammate, a couple of the included examples show toning from age and the odd stain but all remain free from tears and make for a good read.
