Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/27/2023
A fixture in big league hockey for over three decades as a player, coach and assistant manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs, Hap Day also served as the first captain of the franchise upon the christening of the “Maple Leafs” moniker, in 1927. Hoisting Lord Stanley’s coveted trophy an impressive seven times, Day was enshrined in the HOF in 1961. Originally presented to the legendary star by the Amateur Hockey Association of the United States, we offer a small hat charm. Engraved on top with "1945 Hat Trick" in honour of Day's trio of Stanley Cup championships (1 as a player, and 2 as coach), "Amateur Hockey Association US" encompasses the brim of the hat, with "Clarence H. Day" and "Maple Leafs" encompassing the underside of the brim. There are also initials stamped within the hat. The small silver-coloured metal charm shows minor surface wear, and will be accompanied by a copy of the original letter presented to Day with the charm on Amateur Hockey Association of US letterhead, dated May 1, 1945, and signed by league president Tommy Lockhart (facsimile).
