Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction September 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 9/19/2023
An alluring box of unopened O-Pee-Chee hockey card wax packs is offered here and reveals that kids/collectors saw Quebec Nordiques’ star Peter Stastny's image at convenience stores during the 1983-84 season. Stastny had finished runner-up to Wayne Gretzky in the scoring race the previous season, although his 124 points were 72(!) fewer than Wayne’s. When opening (25-cent) packs, collectors discovered various cards of Gretzky and his exciting Oiler teammates, along with rookie cards of Pelle Lindbergh, Scott Stevens, Guy Carbonneau, Phil Housley and others. To bust or keep intact will be the winning bidder's privilege, with GEM MINT cards surely among the 480 contained in the 48 (10-card) packs. Featuring a partially perforated fold up display lid, the box features scotch tape in multiple places over the front and both sides while a small tear/area of paper loss is seen near the top right corner along the right edge. Displaying light surface wear over all sides and some light soiling across the bottom of the 1980s survivor, a small tear is observed near the bottom right corner that measures around 2 inches in length. Freshly wrapped by the unopened experts at BBCE, the company's shrink wrap surrounds the brick and a Baseball Card Exchange label is stuck on the shrink wrap over the box bottom, with the box displaying well overall despite its few condition exceptions described above.
