Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2023

After 132-card efforts, Topps upped its roster to 176 in '72-73 and included a Tony Esposito depiction on wrappers, with pack contents increased to ten cards (from the previous eight) but not including an insert. Regular and All-Star cards of Bobby Orr and Ken Dryden, second-year cards of Guy Lafleur and Marcel Dionne and a Bobby Hull All-Star highlight the set, with the various different photos used for others (compared to O-Pee-Chee cards), appealing to many collectors. The bright vivid color of this pack should be too, with PSA assessing its condition with a NM-MT 8 mark. With the card of Frank Mahovlich appearing to be showing on the backside of the pack, slight tears to the left side edge as well as the bottom edge are worth noting as is slight bits of corner wear. Sporting a mini tool set offer on the back, the PSA holder shows scratches/scuffs over both sides that is worth noting for accuracy. Accurate in the playoffs that year was Conn Smythe Trophy winner Yvan Cournoyer (15 goals in 17 games!), as the Canadiens beat the Blackhawks in six games for the Stanley Cup.
