Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2023

Finding himself only 72 goals away from matching the National Hockey League’s All-Time goals record of 894, currently held by Wayne Gretzky, Alex Ovechkin has The Great One’s record well within his sights as he pots goal after goal. Hailing from 2015-16 season, this weapon of mass scorestruction was wielded by “The Great 8” during a campaign that saw him put up another 50 goals. This Bauer Supreme 1s comes complete with Ovechkin’s familiar tape job on both the blade and shaft that is commonplace on other Ovi game used sticks. Presenting well with great game-use such as various marks and abrasions over the blade, heel and lower shaft, Ovechkin’s original tape job of blade over the blade and red cloth over the handle/knob is still present and accounted for. Sporting factory serial number and barcode stickers affixed to the underside of the shaft that date the production to being from the 13th week of 2016, the shaft shows “Ovie 8” factory graphics along with his personal logo that started to appear on his sticks around the Christmas break of the 2015-16 season. A fantastic example used by the soon to be goal scoring king, Getty image #502140360 shows Ovechkin using the same model stick and tape style as seen on the offered example during a game against the New York Rangers on December 20th, 2015 as well as in Getty image #626857542 against the Toronto Maple Leafs on November 26th, 2016.
