Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/27/2023
Featuring an attractive design (at least in this writer’s eyes) as well as the names of players who had once dominated the era of the Original Six and some of those that would become the star power of the upcoming decade, O-Pee-Chee’s 1969-70 assembly continues to be popular in the hobby and is found here in complete form. Sporting an overall average grade range of EX to EX-MT, the congregation is led by the rookie cards of Serge Savard and Tony Esposito that display in G to VG (light wear to all four corners and a crease) and EX to EX-MT (small bottom right corner ding) respectively. For the rest of the cards, the examples of 24-Orr (very light corner wear), 61-Howe (light corner wear), 70-Hull (light corner wear and 70-30 centering), 76-Mikita, 180-Plante (light corner wear), 193-Howe (light corner wear), 209-Orr Norris (65-35 centering) and 212-Orr All-Star (light corner wear and O.C. top-to-bottom) are all in EX to EX-MT shape. Continuing on, the cardboard of 10-Beliveau (light elastic mark on border), 207-Plante/Hall Vezina (light elastic mark), 215-Howe All-Star (bottom right corner ding), and 231-Stanley Cup (wear to bottom corners and O.C.) are all seen as being in the scope of VG-EX to EX while G to VG examples include the likes of 30-P. Esposito (small crease at top right) and 89-Parent (crease top right). Made up with many off-center offerings, two (2) cards of #32 Fred Stanfield are included and it should be pointed out that cards #8 of Jacques Lemaire and #63 of Bruce MacGregor are both creased. With no stamps applied to the reverses, the checklist cards are seen as being in the conditions of FR to G (marked and creased) and G to VG (unmarked – multiple creases) to complete the offered assembly.
