This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/28/2023
A labour of love for a young hockey fan during the glorious Original Six era, we have a pair of autograph booklets filled with HOFers and noteworthy past NHL stars, along with athletes from additional sports including football (CFL). Began by our consignor while just 9 years old in 1963, the larger book contains the bulk of the signatures, including the first page signed by members of the 1963-64 Montreal Canadiens including Beliveau, Geoffrion, Berenson, Hodge, Laperriere, Backstrom, Harper, Ferguson, JC Tremblay and a few others. The second page is signed by the remaining Habs including Blake, Richard, Talbot and Provost. Next, we have signatures from the Jr Canadiens, presumably from the same season including Cournoyer and Savard. Page after page is filled with multiple signatures, with the highlights to include Mario Andretti, Russ Jackson (CFL), John Surtees (F1), Howe, the Rocket, Stanley, members of the 1964-65 Habs including Worsley, Richard, Beliveau, Laperriere and Blake, Roland Michener (Governor General of Canada 1967-74), Broadbent/Joliat/Denneny - all in a vertical row on one page, Syd Howe, Brad Park, Moe Racine (CFL), Russian Stars Ragulin and Yakushev, Blake, Norikazu Fujii (table tennis), Angelo Mosca (CFL), Ferguson, Vic Washington (CFL), Henri Richard, Frank Clair (CFL), Sinden, Red Kelly, Laperriere, members of the Ottawa Rough Riders including Lehman, Roberts, Black, Shirk, O'Billovich and Jackson, as well as members of the '68 Grey Cup champion Riders with Clair, Adkins, Scott, Joyner, Washington, Racine, Booth, Tucker, Giardino, Lehman and Sutherin. Rounding out the highlights, there is also Worsley, Van Impe, Stanley and Andre Lacroix. The majority of the signatures have been executed in ballpoint, displaying beautifully. The second booklet has signatures from the 1970-71 Japanese National Hockey team, Harry Jerome (1964 Olympic Games) and Nancy Greene (Olympic gold medal winner). The main autograph booklet also has items glued in, and shows heavy wear overall, with clear tape completely covering the covers. The second book shows just light wear. This is a true treasure trove of important and desirable signatures!
