Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction September 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 9/19/2023
Airing on the CBC Network every Saturday night across Canada beginning in 1952, Hockey Night in Canada broadcasted hockey games to thrilled fans, with the show's trademark theme used for 40 years synonymous with the sport. This lot contains a group of 16 photos produced during the early-1970s (some of the images are of earlier players) originally produced and sent by Capitol Records, along with an LP and letter to Capitol from 1972 regarding the photos. First, the 7" x 8 1/2" "Speed" letter addressed to Capitol mentions specific photos, with a second typed letter listing the photos the letter sender both had and needed. The photos are mostly 8" x 10", with a number housing a Toronto photographers stamp to the reverse or in some cases, notation that show the photos were probably used for publication. The images include the HNIC Capitol record (2), Rocket Richard being interviewed, Bobby Hull, Johnny Bower, 1947-49 Leafs team photo, Bill Cook, Bun Cook, Toronto's Kid Line, Chicago's Pony Line, Joe Primeau, the CBC broadcast booth (2) and a few others. The dual LP - which features some of the photos included, shows heavy wear to the sleeve, with the LP's also showing use.
