Always coveted by collectors, sets and near complete of pre-war offerings are usually listed near the top of “want” lists by all vintage collectors. The first hockey card set ever released by O-Pee-Chee, up for grabs here is this partial set of 1933-34 O-Pee-Chee V304 Series “A” cards that includes 24 of the 48 cards that make up the checklist. All found in raw ungraded form with most of the cards in the set listed as rookie specimens, the group is led by VG-EX scope cards of #16 Ott Heller (RC) and #17 Art Somers (RC). Featuring a lone VG specimen in the form of #30 Johnny Sheppard (RC – creases and evidence of being in an album), G to VG scope cards include copies of #5 Fred Hitchman, #7 Walter Galbraith (RC – creases), #22 Georges Mantha (RC – creases) and #26 Bill Touhey (RC – creases). For the lower end cards, those of 11-Levinsky (RC – creases), 14-Patterson (RC – stained back, pen mark on back and edge damage), 20-Lepine (RC – creases), 29-Himes (RC – creases), 44-McVeigh (RC – creases), 46-Leduc (RC – creases) and 48-Mondou (RC – creases) are all viewed as being the range of GOOD, 4-Doraty (RC- creases), 21-LaRochelle (RC – creases) and 41-McInenly (RC – creases) present in the scope of FR to G, 2-Lamb (RC), 28-Bourgeault (RC), 36-Keeling (RC), 37-Murdoch (RC), 40-Emms (RC) and 43-Phillips (RC) are in the approximate vicinity of FR and lastly, the PR examples include those of 15-Hainsworth (RC), 19-Gagnon (RC), 32-Day and 47-Wasnie (RC). Card #25 of Frank Finnegan is trimmed side-to-side and top to bottom. Still a lovely grouping with over half of the set represented, a swell array of colors and numerous hockey legends will be coming your way after you’re the higher bidder here.
