Enjoying a major league career that spanned 14 years with the Brooklyn and Los Angeles Dodgers, Don Drysdale would help the Dodgers to World Series rings in 1959, 1963 and 1965 and collect the National League’s Cy Young Award in 1962. Inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1984, Drysdale would enjoy a length broadcasting/coaching career after his retirement during the 1969 season staring in 1970 back in Montreal with the Expos, the city where he spent the 1955 season with the Royals of the International League. Proudly offered here, is this complete Montreal Expos coaches uniform that includes the jersey and pants worn by Drysdale during the 1970 season. Both Wilson made garments of a beautiful powder blue coloured flannel material, the jersey displays a Wilson size “46” tag affixed to the inner collar while the pants sport a Wilson size “40” label sewn to the waistband. Decorated with the Expos team crest over the left breast in layered tackle twill with “Expos” spelt out below in individual blue twill letters, Drysdale’s number “53” is sewn to the right-side chest and verso in matching single layer blue tackle twill numerals while “1970” is chain stitched over the lower front hem. With red, white and blue coloured piping around each sleeve cuff and down outsides of both pant legs, the pants themselves show an additional tag with heavily faded/washed out handwritten notations (appearing to be inseam length information) underneath the Wilson tag while a stamping appearing to read “CUO – A4000” is found beside them. Showing light wear compared uniforms worn by players, all the buttons on both the jersey and pants are present and accounted for with none running the risk of falling off and the elastic cuffs at the end of each pant leg still contain some elasticity. Exhibiting some staining/soiling over the lower front, reverse and over the front number “5” of the jersey, the pants also show a small number of stains that look the exact same dotted throughout with some wear to the red, white and blue piping on each side of the legs also exhibited via pulling away from the pants themselves/fraying and staining/soiling. A true survivor worn by one of the game’s greatest pitchers during only the 2nd season of Major League Baseball play north of the border, we’re sure our lucky winning bidder be pleased with this “Nos Amours” offering once it arrives.
