Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/27/2023
Topps' popular 1965-66 puck issue includes several notable rookie cards, with none more important/valuable than that of Phil Esposito. The big center was a 20-goal scorer for three seasons with Chicago but after a trade to Boston, Espo started to really score, setting the single-season mark with 76 goals in '70-71 and totaling 717 for his career. Offered here, is this copy of card number 116 in the 128-card set, showing Phil in his early days as a member of the Chicago Black Hawks. Deemed worthy of a VG-EX 4 designation after inspection by PSA, the card displays off-center left-to-right with wear to all four corners also exhibited. Retaining all of its vivid colour with fairly minimal surface wear present, a small spot is seen under the “A” in “Hawks” at the top of the card. On the reverse side, surface wear is observed through some light paper loss and the comic has become visible over time. Of note, the PSA holder the card is housed in remains in overall good condition with just some light scratches seen over both sides, heaviest on the reverse.
