Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2023

Standing just 5’6” in height, Dick Warwick would be a key cog in the wheel of the dominant run Penticton Vees’ clubs that would play between 1952 and 1955, capped off by representing Canada at the 1955 IIHF World Championship where the team would bring home the gold medal and claim the country’s 16th world championship title. Proudly offered here, is this 1952-53 OKSHL Penticton Vees jersey worn by Warwick that has been photo-matched! A beautiful all-wool construction sweater in a green, white and yellow colourway, the jersey has been hemmed at the bottom which has helped preserve a “Pride of the West – Vancouver, B.C.” tag that is affixed inside the left hip seam. Measuring out to roughly a size “42”, the front of the tie-neck garment has been decorated with a large heavy felt “P” crest on the front in green with three heavy felt “V” crests found as well, one in the middle of the “P” and the other two over the upper left and right chest respectively. Additionally, the distinguished alternate captain’s “A” has been sewn over the left breast in matching heavy white felt. Decorated over the reverse with Warwick’s number “9” once again in a heavy green felt numeral with reinforced elbows over each sleeve, the jersey shows wear that stems likely from multiple seasons of use as evident by the approx. 52 team repairs (thirty-six (36) to the sleeves, twelve (12) to the front and four (4) to the reverse), heavy pilling to the wool, most notably to the lower sleeves from glove rubbing, on the back and throughout the interior, heavy sweat staining over the front and lower sleeves, unrepaired holes totalling four (4) and some washed out blood stains over both the lower front and reverse. A stunning surviving relic, adding to the appeal of the piece is the fact that the jersey is photo-matched to an undated image taken during the 1952-53 season that shows the correct placement, shape and style of the alternate captain’s “A”, the correct spacing between the “P” and “V” crests on the upper left side of the chest and the team repair directly to the left of the alternate captain’s “A”. A full report outlining the authenticity of the piece will accompany the sweater, as will an 8” x 10” image of Dick along with his brothers Grant and Bill after winning the 1955 IIHF World Championship that has been signed by all three in black marker with the signatures displaying without issue.
