Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/27/2023
Already dubbed “Le Magnifique” prior to his big league debut, Montreal native Mario Lemieux did not disappoint in his first NHL campaign following his record-breaking junior career with the Laval Voisins, his rookie season statistics of 43 goals and an even 100 points appearing here on the back of this attractive 1985-86 Topps rookie card. The young star then thoroughly impressed his peers with 141 points (second only to Gretzky) in his second season ('85-86), evidenced by them voting Lemieux recipient of the Lester B. Pearson Trophy as the league's outstanding player as selected by the NHL Players' Association, ending a four-year run by Edmonton's #99. Recently having been graded by PSA, this copy of Mario’s coveted first-year Topps card has earned a mark of NM-MT 8 after its inspection, also showing a qualifier of “ST” (staining) on its label as well. Showing attributes expected of a high-grade card such as excellent centering, vivid colours, sharp corners, smooth edges and a clean front surface, the “ST” qualifier hails from a wax stain that graces the reverse side of the card. Housed in a flawless PSA holder, you can be sure you and your all-important collection are getting a top notch offering. Don’t miss out on this one!
