Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/27/2023
The 2nd card of HOFer Art Ross to be featured in the inaugural 1910-11 hockey card set to be produced by Imperial Tobacco, Ross would be regarded by his peers as one of the era’s best defenders and won two Stanley Cups during his 13-year playing career as well as another pair during his long tenure as bench boss of the Boston Bruins. Having been recently inspected and encapsulated by PSA, the graders at the company have deemed this copy of card #12 worthy of a very respectable mid-grade mark of VG-EX+ 4.5. Showing with beautifully bold and vivid colours as well as pleasing centering and sharp corners, toning is seen over both sides that we would describe as moderate and is surely keeping the 113-year-old card from a higher mark. Housed in a PSA holder that presents with a couple of light scratches over both sides, it should be pointed out that of the 127 examples of this card that have been examined at PSA over the years, only 24 copies have graded higher than the one being offered here (fourteen (14) PSA 5’s, one (1) PSA 5 Q, five (5) PSA 6’s and four (4) PSA 7’s) ensuring that you and your vintage collection are getting a top of the heap specimen of one of hockey’s forefathers and greatest players.
