Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/28/2023
Known affectionately as “The Grand Ole Lady of Carlton Street” Maple Leaf Gardens served as the home to the Toronto Maple Leafs between 1931 and 1999, becoming a hockey palace over that 68-year period of time that saw the best of the best play games and do shows within its four walls. Captured here in this beautiful 16” x 20” image of the famous building, with the original taken at some point in the 1940s, numerous Union Jacks can be seen flowing in the breeze while the sign lets people know that boxing can be seen on the coming Monday. Having had seen the Stanley Cup presented on her ice a total of twelve (12) times through its history, this image of the Gardens has been signed by forty-five (45) former Maple Leafs players. Including Hockey Hall of Fame inductees Kennedy, Watson, Bower, MacDonald, Mahovlich, Kelly, Ullman, Stanley, Poile and Horner, others that have signed include; Lynn, Stewart, Maloney, Pulford, Hillman, Conacher, Brewer, Mortson, Douglas, Shack, Harris, Weir, Litzenberger, Juzda, Price, Metz, S. Smith, Langelle, Clancy, Oliver, Willams, B. Smith, Watson, Gardiner, Stankowski, Bodnar, Ullman, Derlago, Jeffries, Turnbull, Vaive and Papin. All signed in blue marker, all the autographs display well with no flaws to mention other than a couple showing very light fading from age. A Classic Auctions LOA will accompany the piece.
