Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2023

Selected 75th overall by the Montreal Canadiens at the 1998 NHL Entry Draft, Francois Beauchemin would go on to play a total of 903 games in the National Hockey League, including one (1) with the team that drafted him and would win a Stanley Cup in 2007 as a member of the Anaheim Ducks. Offered here, is this Canadiens jersey worn by Beauchemin during pre-season play during the 1998-99 season. A Starter made garment with brand/Center Ice labeling affixed to the inner collar and a size “54-R” sewn inside the rear hem, both the Starter wordmark logo and NHL shield have been embroidered into the reverse hem as well. Of note, the jersey dates from the 1997-98 season originally as that was the only season that style of Starter hem logo was worn. Decorated over the front with perhaps the most famous crest in hockey in layered tackle twill with embroidered details, the sleeves and verso have been accented with Beauchemin’s number “20” while “Beauchemin” is spelt out in single layer white twill letters across the affixed matching nameplate. Originally made up for Valeri Bure during the 1997-98 season before his mid-season trade to Calgary, evidence of a former nameplate that was once affixed to the upper back as well as the outlines of letters spelling “Bure” can be seen when the jersey is flipped inside out though we cannot be sure if Valeri wore the jersey during the season or not. Showing game-wear via stick marks over the lower front and both sleeves which also both display board burns, light pilling is found on the interior as well. A Canadiens LOA signed by Rejean Houle will accompany the piece.
