Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/27/2023
A silver medal winner with Team USA at the 2010 Winter Olympics, defenseman Brooks Orpik spent parts of 11 seasons in Pittsburgh with the Penguins, followed by five seasons with Washington. This Penguins jersey was worn by the California native in 2007-08. A CCM label with "56" sizing is affixed to the collar, with NHL and Reebok crests gracing both the front and back necklines respectively. Styled with the familiar Pens team crest with embroidered detailing, the “Set 3” V-neck has been finished with oversized and textured tri-colour sleeve and verso numbers, with the Pittsburgh 250th anniversary crest over the right shoulder. Seeing heavy use, the material shows wear throughout, with numerous burn marks to the sleeve numbers and shoulders. Team repairs are also present, with examples on the sleeves (10) and shoulders (7). Getty Image #80596194 (March 27, 2008) has been matched to the dark mark within the second "4" of "44" on the right sleeve. The black threading anomaly at the bottom right of the "250" patch is also showing. Additionally, Getty Image #79724586 (Feb 9, 2007) has been matched to the team repairs visible on the left sleeve, with the threading anomalies to the first "4" of "44" also showing. Equipment manager Dana Heinze has signed the fight strap, with the team patch residing on the inside hem. An LOA will accompany.
