Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction November 2023

Originally drafted 108th overall by the Vancouver Canucks, Garry Valk would play a total of 777 National Hockey League games over the course of his career, suiting up for Vancouver, Anaheim, Pittsburgh, Toronto and Chicago over that time to the tune of 100 goals and 256 points. Up for grabs here, we present this Penguins jersey worn by Valk during the 1996-97 season after being acquired by the team from the Mighty Ducks. An all-mesh construction garment made by Starter, brand, Center Ice Authentic Collection and size "54-R" labelling is affixed to the inner collar with Valk's number "8" penned over the Starter tag in washed out black marker ink. Having had the logos of both Starter and the NHL shield embroidered into the reverse hem, the front of the jersey is decorated with a large Penguins team crest that featured both textured and embroidered details while Valk's number "8" is sewn to the sleeves and verso in dual layer black-over-yellow tackle twill numerals. Having had "Valk" spelt out in matching black-over-yellow letters across the affixed matching mesh nameplate, the jersey displays excellent game-wear in the form of stick marks throughout the entirety of the body and both sleeves with the latter showing a couple of board burns as well. Sporting additional battle scars in the form of a coloured board paint transfer over the left elbow and a couple of small holes in the mesh scattered throughout, spot staining is found over the front and near both cuffs while the interior shows rusting inside the snaps of the fight strap.
