Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction September 2023

On January 21, 2009, the Toronto Maple Leafs honored 1975 HHOF inductee and former Leaf, Ace Bailey, whose No. 6 was the first number to be retired by any professional team after an injury ended his playing career and spawned what we know now as the NHL All-Star Game. Wearing a special “Ace” patch on their jerseys during the game and special warm-up jerseys mimicking those worn during the Ace Bailey Benefit Game, up for grabs here is this “Ace Bailey” tribute jersey worn by Leafs defenceman, Mike Van Ryn. Sporting both Reebok and CCM size “56” tagging affixed to the inner collar, an additional Reebok patch has been added over the rear neckline. Decorated with “ACE” diagonally down the front in single layer white tackle twill letters along with a vintage style Maple Leafs team crest over the left breast, Van Ryn’s number “26” is found over the reverse in matching style white twill numerals. Worn for just the warm-ups, the jersey shows no obvious game-wear but some staining not associated with game-use is seen near each cuff. A Leafs team patch dating the jersey and stating who it was worn by is sewn inside and the jersey is accompanied by a Leafs COA. Additionally, Van Ryn has signed the “C” on the front of the jersey with a blue ink signature that shows with some bleeding observed.
