Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/27/2023
Originally modeled after the first level of Boston Garden, the London Ice House - first known as Treasure Island Gardens, was built in 1963 on Wellington Road South, in London, Ontario. The home of the OHL's London Knights, the Ice House served the hockey franchise until 2002. Turned it into a motocross facility called the London Motoplex in the 2000s, the venue famously hosted a Rolling Stones concert in 1965 that ended after only 15 minutes due to rioting in the crowd. From the collection of noted hockey historian and collector Brian Logie, we have an exceptional and unique large model of the noted arena. Built of solid wood at dimensions of 43" x 19" x 9", the well detailed model features an intricate rink with painted lines and glass cover to give the appearance of ice, with full seating along with a time clock and portrait of Queen Elizabeth. The exterior is finished in black and grey, and features lines drawn to facilitate the real brick walls, with four sets of outdoor steps for entry. The front portion includes the vestibule, with both this section and the rink itself visible as the top of each section is hinged and opens up, showing the detailed rafters over the rink. Condition is excellent, with just wear from age/storage and no damage whatsoever. This would make for a formidable display in any hockey collection. Please note that due to the size and weight, shipping may be substantial.
