Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/27/2023
One of the most memorable tournaments in international hockey history, the 1987 Canada Cup saw Canada, led by superstars Wayne Gretzky and Mario Lemieux, defeat an arguably as powerful Soviet squad, one of the best they ever assembled, two games to one in the tightly contested best of three final to claim the crown. Up for grabs here, is this wooden plaque presented to a member of Team Canada’s staff in commemoration of their victory. At 7 1/2" x 11”, a chromed cast metal half maple leaf is supported by a 1” tall wooden base with beveled backing and affixed small metal plate that reads “Coupe – Canada – Cup” and shows some heavy scratches at the right side. Displaying with scratches, nicks and scuffs to the wooden base as well as some light scratches and surface wear to the metal maple leaf, a trimmed letter to the recipient signed by Allen Eagleson is taped to the back of the base. A truly historical keepsake from a legendary tournament, don’t let this pass you by.
