Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/27/2023
Created with the relocation of the unsuccessful Los Angeles Sharks to the Detroit area following the 1973-74 WHA season, the Michigan Stags lasted a mere 43 games before folding due to financial difficulties in January of 1975. As such, any and all surviving Stags jerseys are especially rare and sought by collectors. We offer a Stags alternate captain's jersey worn by Paul Curtis. Wilson labeling with “48” sizing sits along the collar, with a multi-coloured and partially-embroidered Stags team crest. “15” in layered tackle twill is sewn to the sleeves and verso, with "Curtis" across the nameplate in single white twill. The garter-style fight strap is intact. Somewhat discoloured over the front, with the material not as bright, with this also visible on sections of each sleeve and the shoulders - most likely from sun exposure, the jersey is free of any unsightly marks or damage, with scuffs over the right elbow. There is also puckering to the team crest, and some pilling to the interior.
