A Calder Cup champion, and the first goalie in NCAA history to record 100 career victories, Steve Shields spent 4 seasons with the U. of Michigan, later appearing for six NHL clubs including Boston, Buffalo, Atlanta and San Jose. This Sharks jersey was worn by the Toronto native in 1999-00, and it is accompanied by a signed stick used in the late-1990s, circa 1998-2000. CCM “Goalie Style” labeling and a size “60” fly tag are affixed to the collar, with embroidered NHL and CCM crests on the reverse hem. Styled with a multi-coloured Sharks team crest, “31” is sewn to the sleeves and verso in layered tackle twill, with the NHL 2000 patch situated just above the right breast. There are marks from game use along with a few stains over the front, with additional marks to the sleeves. A pair of small unrepaired holes are situated on the lower front, with a tear to the left cuff and pilling to the shoulders. The stick is a Vic 9050 model in Sharks colour scheme with "Shields" stamped to the upper shaft and the original tape jobs in place over the blade, handle and upper shaft. Great game use is shown with puck marks to the blade tape and wear to the underside as well as additional marks to the paddle with chipping and a crack to the top edge. There is also red paint transfer to the handle and upper shaft. Shields has signed the upper paddle, with the thin black ink signature displaying well.
