Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2023

Drafted by the Atlanta Flames in 1979, Jim Peplinski spent his entire career with the Flames, both as an inaugural-season member in Calgary in 1980 as well as a Stanley Cup champion with the club in 1989. We have a Flames captain’s jersey worn by the Renfrew native in 1988-89. Measuring-out to a size 52, a faded Maska label sits along the collar, with an embroidered CCM crest over the reverse hem. Styled with the familiar Flames team crest administered in layered tackle twill, the mesh-style V-neck has been accented with "24" sewn to the sleeves and verso in matching material, with a taped-shut dual-clasp fight strap intact. Most likely a set 1 1988-89 jersey, there is an outside chance it is a set 2 1987-88 specimen, with these only worn briefly by the team at the end of the season (set 2 had no 1988 Calgary Olympics patch). Exhibiting a few marks and fabric pulls to the lower front along with a small slit, there are additional dark marks to the sleeves as well as wear to the material. The reverse "I' of "Peplinski" is also partially detached, with some minor pilling to the interior sleeves. Additionally, there are a few very small holes to the shoulder and sleeves, with the jersey possibly framed at some point. An LOA will accompany.
