Scoring a pair of points in the two contests he appeared in, Wayne Cashman contributed to the Team Canada victory at the epic Summit Series in 1972, with the offered team-signed stick used by the legendary Bruin during the training camp that preceded the tournament. A Victoriaville “Special Model” with shaved sides to the shaft and dual striping accents in Boston colours, “Cashman” and “12” are stamped to the upper shaft, with the original and well worn white ribbed taped job over the handle intact. 38 have signed the front side of the shaft in dark ink, including Cashman, along with Dryden, Henderson, Orr (red marker), Clarke, Dionne, Mikita, Ratelle, Gilbert, Park and others.
The additional signers include Awrey, Berenson, Cournoyer, Ellis, Glennie, Goldsworthy, Guevremont, Hadfield, Hull, Lapointe, Martin, Parise, Perreault, Redmond, Savard, Seiling, Stapleton, Tallon, White, Johnston, and the Mahovlich and Esposito brothers. The stick is also signed by Billy Harris, Michel Larocque and John Van Boxmeer, with each of these three junior players invited to take part in Team Canada practices at training camp. Each was a client of Alan Eagleson, and each stayed with Team Canada during the Canadian stage of the tournament. The signatures all display nicely, with just a few bunched-up and somewhat lighter. The Orr displays beautifully, with just the top portion of the “B” infringing upon Yvan Cournoyer’s signature. The stick itself shows light to moderate use, with wear to the striping accents and a minor split along the underside of the blade. There is also a burnt section of the blade, with this likely occurring from heating the blade to extend or add to the curve.
