Marking the first time that Topps released their entire yearly baseball release in its entirety as compared to several series throughout the season as a way to prevent late season competition with their football set, the 1974 Topps baseball release held consistent at 660 cards, the same amount found in the 1973 set before it. Up for grabs here and hailing from the year the Oakland A’s won their third straight World Series crown, is this 1974 Topps baseball complete set. Paced by a group of seven (7) cards graded by PSA, the key rookie card of HOFer Dave Winfield has garnered a MINT 9 while Dave Parker’s first year cardboard has been deemed worthy of a NM-MT 8. Additional graded cards include those of Willie Stargell (MINT 9), Thurman Munson (MINT 9), All-Star Catchers (NM-MT 8), Reds Manager/Coaches (NM-MT 8) and Batting Leaders: Carew/Rose (NM-MT 8). All the holders remain in excellent condition with light wear via light scratches and scuffs being observed.
For the rest of the cards, found in a raw ungraded state, the set is found in an overall consistent high-grade range that features EX, EX-MT and NM specimens. The key cards, those of 280-Yastrzemski, 283-Schmidt (2nd year card) and 300-Rose lead the way, falling into the vicinity of EX-MT to NM and are followed closely behind by cards #130 of Reggie Jackson and #473 of Willie Mays (1973 World Series Game 2) at EX to EX-MT. Rounding out the keys, card #10 of Johnny Bench is seen as being in the neighbourhood of EX with slight ink bleed at the top left while card #20 of Nolan Ryan presents with an approximate scope of VG-EX to EX and shows light corner wear to the top left point. Lastly, the leadoff card of Hank Aaron is found in the range of VG condition and shows light elastic marks. A fun trip down memory lane with the boys of summer from yesteryear, don’t let this classic assembly chalked full of key rookies and stars pass you by!
