Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 5/2/2023
One of the most popular vintage baseball card releases due to its easily recognizable colourful and distinct design and of course dating back to the pre-war era of cards, the 1933 Goudey release features a total of 64 cards depicting players now in the Baseball Hall of Fame, the set also includes the key rookie card of Lou Gehrig, the seldom seen short print of Nap Lajoie and four different Babe Ruth cards to satisfy collectors. Hailing from the 1933 Goudey set (considered one of the “big three” baseball releases with the 1909 T206’s and the 1952 Topps set) is this pair of cards that features HOFers Mickey Cochrane and Heinie Manush. Both having been inspected and graded by PSA, the Cochrane card has been deemed worthy of a VG 3 designation while the Manush card, a first-year offering, has garnered a mark of GOOD 2. Both retaining bold and vivid colours on their fronts and showing relatively clean reverses, the Manush card is off-center top-to-bottom and shows more extensive corner wear than the Cochrane that is sure that is keeping it from a higher grade. A classic pair of HOF examples, we’re sure our lucky winning bidder with be pleased with these.
