In a baseball calendar year that saw the New York Yankees redeem themselves and beat the Milwaukee Braves in the Fall Classic for their 18th title and 7th in ten years, the 1958 Topps baseball set features a checklist of 494 cards chalked full of star power as well as the rookie card of Roger Maris. Up for grabs here, is this quartet of 1958 Topps baseball cards picturing HOFers that have all been inspected and graded by the graders by PSA. Led by the coveted card of Mickey Mantle that has earned a designation of GOOD+ 2.5, perhaps the best pitcher of the era, Sandy Koufax, has garnered the same mark, displaying a GOOD+ 2.5 over its label as well. The third card of the group pictures Braves star Eddie Mathews, who leads the group in terms of highest grade, being deemed worthy of a VG 3. The last card included, is a copy of Hank Aaron’s All-Star specimen that falls at #488 on the checklist and sports a PR 1 mark for its effort. All retaining good colours, the Mantle example shows the most surface wear out of the four while all display with good vivid colours. All showing corner wear, the Aaron example shows a heavy ding/crease at the top left corner while the Koufax shows the worst corner wear out of all of them while the Mantle’s points are all dinged and rounded. Featuring pleasing centering for the most part, the Koufax is a tad off-center right-to-left over the front with the reverses off on both the Koufax and Aaron cards. A spectacular foursome of Hall of Famers that won a combined total of 14 World Series championships.
