Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction September 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 9/20/2023
One of the sport's most historic and decorated teams, the original Ottawa Senators celebrated a total of 11 Stanley Cups championships, with four won after joining the NHL as a charter member in 1917, with victories in 1920, 1921, 1923 and 1927. This ultimate Senators display piece features individual player photos of members of the 1927 Stanley Cup squad (while most of the players were on the 1926-27 team, the photos actually match the 1927-28 season, with just Chouinard [8 games], Godin [20 games] and Shields [8 games] missing). Originating from a bar in Ottawa that may have been connected to someone from the Sens organization, the period photos were originally displayed in a different frame, with the current framing done for our consignor to great cost. 11 of the 14 rostered players are present, with each featured in a full body pose at approx 8" x 10", including Georges Boucher, Punch Broadbent, King Clancy, Alec Connell, Len Grosvenor, Cy Denneny, Frank Finnigan, Milt Halliday, Hec Kilrea, Frank Nighbor and Alex Smith. There are also photos of the Stanley Cup, Prince of Wales Trophy and O'Brien Trophy. The photos have a name plate beneath each image, along with "Ottawa Senators" and "World's Champions 1927". Constructed of heavy black finished wood, the total dimensions are approx 32" x 65". This is truly one of the greatest antique hockey display pieces we have ever seen or offered. Please note that due to the size and/or weight, special shipping arrangements may be required.
While all of our frames are thoroughly and safely packaged for shipping, due to the size and/or weight, and dependent upon the shipping company, we should mention that damage may occur in transit. Please note that as such, we are not responsible for damage to frames that occurs during shipping.
