Members of the NHA during the teens and winning a Stanley Cup championship in 1914, the Toronto Blueshirts helped instigate the formation of the NHL when the league was created by NHA owners to exclude Blueshirts owner Eddie Livingston. The only example known according to our knowledge, this rare 1913 Toronto Blueshirts pin was produced by A.E. Beckwith. 3 1/2" in diameter, with the capital "T" Toronto emblem with "1913" inserted, the reverse has a period clasp and pin over a covered cardboard backing with affixed sticker stating "A.E. Beckwith - Advertising Novelties - 595 McKinnon Bldg - Toronto Ont". Beckwith is listed in the revised 1991 Price Guide to Collectible Pin-Back Buttons as being in business circa 1909. The pin shows just light wear from age and displays perfectly. From the Brent Sobie antique hockey and baseball collection.
