Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 5/2/2023
Led by Hall of Famer Roberto Clemente, the Pittsburgh Pirates finished first in the NL in 1960, seven games ahead of the Milwaukee Braves. Meeting the New York Yankees in the World Series, the Pirates slipped past the Bombers 4 games to 3 in what is heralded as one of the most storied series in history. Originating from the estate of Cecil Finkler, a Former International League Toronto Maple Leafs team executive, we have a ball team-signed by the 1960 Pirates. A Spalding Official NL Warren Giles model, 19 have signed in a mix of blue inks, including Mazeroski, Law, Virdon, Face, Schofield, Haddix, Groat, Oceak, Murtaugh (manager), Green, Narron, Burwell, Baker, Nelson and others. A number of the signatures are quite faded, with an equal number that stand out nicely. The ball exhibits some even toning. A JSA LOA will accompany.
