Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 5/2/2023
Granted expansion into the Major Leagues for the 1977 season, the Toronto Blue Jays own the distinction of being the only MLB team to play north of the border and the only Canadian based team to have won the World Series, doing so in back-to-back years of 1992 and 1993. Offered here is this collection of various Toronto Blue Jays cards that includes both memorabilia and autographed offerings. Starting with a trio of 2016 Topps Now cards celebrating moments from Toronto’s 2016 playoff run, a card #538-D of Edwin Encarnacion, picturing him after his walk off homerun in the Wild Card Game, has been signed by him with a blue ink signature with his penned inscription in matching ink underneath reading “WC Walk Off” with both remaining in excellent condition. Serial numbered “24/25” the card displays in the condition range of EX-MT to NM or better. Other 2016 Topps Now cards also displaying moments from that same playoff run include cards #539-D (Wild Card Game) and #560-D (ALCS Game 3) that are serial numbered “10/25” and “71/99” respectively with both containing pieces of bases used in the game they showcase that have MLB authentication holograms affixed. In the same range condition wise as the Edwin example, both cards are seen as EX-MT to NM or better. The rest of the lot includes slabbed authenticated autograph cards of Bo Bichette (2016 Bowman Draft), Joe Carter (1984 Donruss), Roberto Alomar (1989 Topps) and Roy Halladay (1997 Best). All the autographs display well having been signed in either blue or black marker while is should be noted the autograph themselves have only been authenticated with neither the card or signature given a grade. The Halladay example shows heavy damage that affects both the card and holder though it doesn’t ruin the signature. Other autograph cards include a pair of examples from 2014 Panini Hall of Fame Baseball that feature Pat Gillick and Roberto Alomar with the Alomar being a red parallel serial numbered “21/50”. Both signed with blue ink signatures that display without issue, the cards display in the condition range of EX-MT to NM. A final Alomar signed card is included in the form of his 1988 Topps Traded RC that is sealed in Lucite with Alomar having signed the card with a blue ink signature that is slightly faded. Serial numbered “510/1988” in matching ink directly on the card, an information plaque is affixed underneath. The last cards include relic offerings of Edwin Encarnacion (“05/99”) and Josh Donaldson from 2014 Panini Classics and 2016 Panini Donruss respectively as well as a 2019 Topps Now #599 of Cavan Biggio, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Bo Bichette that has been graded GEM MT 10 by PSA with the holder remaining in excellent condition.
Additionally, also included with the lot is a group of 32 additional cards signed by Blue Jays players including names like Alomar, Stieb, Moseby, Ward, Wells, Barfield and Fernandez. In a variety of condition ranges, these cards are not authenticated and are being sold “AS IS”.
