A veteran of 14 National Hockey League seasons, Derek King enjoyed 11 of those years in Long Island with the New York Islanders, the club that drafted him 13th overall in 1985, where he put up 499 points over that time. Offered here, is this Islanders jersey worn by King during the 1996-97 season. Made by CCM with a single size “54” tag affixed inside the collar, the logos of CCM and the NHL shield have been embroidered into the rear hem. Decorated over the front with the infamous Islanders “Fisherman” crest that lasted only two seasons and matching light house alternate logo patches over both shoulders, the glue outline of a larger front logo that once graced the jersey is seen around the edge of the smaller one that the team put in its place. Adding to the appeal, the jersey hails from the Islanders 25th anniversary season with their anniversary patch commemorating the occasion seen over the right breast while the distinguished alternate captain’s “A” worn by King is seen over the the left side. King’s number “27” has been sewn to the sleeves and verso in tri-layer teal-over-orange-over-navy numerals with “King” spelt out across the affixed matching nameplate in single layer navy twill letters. Exhibiting excellent game-wear, numerous stick marks, fabric pulls/pills, team repairs and frays are observed throughout the front, reverse and both sleeves. Unrepaired holes totalling two are present to the right of the “7” on the right sleeve while the interior shows pilling at the elbows and a heavily salted fight strap that also shows some damage as well. Additionally, Islanders equipment manager, Joe McMahon, has signed on the inside behind the team crest in black marker and has added the date “96-97” above.
