Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction November 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/28/2023
Known in French Canada as “Le Gros Bill” and often regarded (with little opposition we may add) as one of the ten greatest players in the history of the National Hockey League, Jean Beliveau would win an astounding seventeen (17) Stanley Cup championships throughout his life in hockey including ten (10) as a player for the storied bleu, blanc et rouge. Proudly offered here, is this collection of Jean Beliveau autographed items totalling fifty plus (50+) examples of the hockey legends instantly recognizable signature. With some of the most interesting items coming in the form of vintage magazines featuring Jean over the front cover that were printed during his playing career, including a Canadiens Sports Magazine from 1968-69 titled "The Story of Jean Beliveau" that has a copy of Montreal's November 16th, 1968 game program against the Oakland Seals on the interior, the hockey legend has signed over the front later in life with a green ink marker with the autograph displaying well. Also including issues from Hockey Illustrated (January 1965), Sportorama (October 1967), Liberty (December 1959), All have once again been signed by Jean over his cover images with that display well though it should be noted that the signature on the Liberty issue is faded. Also including other vintage literature that has been signed in modern day by Jean, the 1972 HHOF inductee's self titled "My Life in Hockey" book is also included and has been signed by him in silver marker over the front. Next, are copies of Les Canadiens magazine from the 1997-98 season as well as a Beliveau 50 years tribute booklet from Montreal's contest against the Toronto Maple Leafs on October 18th, 2003 are both included, both showing Jean over the front cover and showing light handling wear while Beliveau's easily recognizable autograph is present in silver marker over both covers with both displaying well and without issue. Moving on, a Canadiens Centennial magazine from 2009 is present and accounted for, signed on the inside by Beliveau seven (7) times along with fellow Montreal legends such as Lafleur (x2), Savard, Moore and H. Richard, which is accompanied by an 8" x 10" image of both Beliveau and Bobby Hull that is signed by both men and a book titled "Hockey's Golden Era" that is autographed by cover boy Beliveau and Johnny Bower on the front dust jacket. With the rest of the collection featuring numerous other photographs, cards, tickets and other ephemera signed by "Big Jean" in various colours of marker ink as well as blue ballpoint pen, everything appears to be in excellent condition after quick inspection with the autographs all equally as appealing grade wise. A fantastic lot for any Canadians or HHOF autograph collector, a Classic Auctions LOA will accompany the collection.
