Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2023

Joining those of teammates Howie Morenz and Georges Vezina as the most important/valuable cards in the Maple Crispette set, other than the short-printed Sprague Cleghorn card, is that of left winger extraordinaire Aurele Joliat. The reverse includes not statistics but an offer for a free pair of skates in exchange for a complete set, with not many of the aforementioned Cleghorns issued so as to limit the number of skates awarded. Joliat and Morenz would dash/dart around NHL ice surfaces for a decade together with Aurele’s stats for the 1924-25 season this card hails from highly impressive as “The Little Giant” potted a career-high 30 goals in just 25 games. Found at #14 in the 29-card set, this copy of Joliat’s coveted card has garnered a grade of VG-EX 4 from inspectors at PSA. When compared with the company’s population report, this copy of Joliat’s card joins nine (9) others that have earned the same VG-EX designation and is bested by four (4) others in the form of a single 4.5, a single 5 and two 6’s in the forty-one (41) total examples examined by the graders. The PSA holder remains in excellent condition with just light scratches and scuffs over both sides.
