Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/27/2023
Fiberglass goalie masks produced during their heyday in the 1970s before modern helmet and cage contraptions became the norm are highly collected today, with both their appearance and function giving a nostalgic aesthetic now gone from the sport. We offer an example, with this mask produced by Jacques Plante’s company Fibrosport. More of an entry level mask when compared to the pro models produced by the company, the full-face covering measures 11 ¾” in length at its longest points on the reverse. A plain white example, the interior of the mask is void of any padding and is missing the strapping harness that was once used on it while all the metal snaps remain present and accounted for with minimal rust being exhibited. A relic of a by gone era that is associated to one of the best to ever play the game who also was one of the biggest innovators of the position, the mask shows use via numerous scratches, marks, abrasions and small chips throughout its exterior with large and deep cracks over the nose and top of the forehead worth mentioning for accuracy.
