Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/27/2023
Fiberglass goalie masks produced during their heyday in the 1970s before modern helmet and cage contraptions became the norm are highly collected today, with both their appearance and function giving a nostalgic aesthetic now gone from the sport. We offer an example, with this mask produced by Jacques Plante’s company Fibrosport. Measuring 12” in length at its longest points on the reverse, the full faced mask has been decorated over the front with a black, white and baby blue paint job that gives off electricity and lightning vibes to that was at one time sure to scare opponents from coming near the goal. Void of any padding on the interior and missing its strapping harness in entirety, some of the metal snaps the harness would be attached to on the outer edges are missing with a couple of others having come loose over time. A relic of a by gone era, the battle helmet shows use via numerous scratches, marks, abrasions and small chips throughout its exterior while no cracks or breaks are present.
