Complete pre-war hockey card sets, with good reason, always command respect and interest, with the level elevated when it comes to O-Pee-Chee’s unique 1936-37 die-cut issue, the cards designed to have part of the top half folded in order to stand the cards up. Found here in complete set form, is this 36-card assembly of O-Pee-Chee’s 1936-37 Series “D” (V304D) set. Paced by a group of freshly graded PSA slabs that total nine (9), the group is paced by a group of HOFers that includes Howie Morenz (PSA EX 5), Turk Broda (RC – PSA EX 5), Eddie Shore (PSA EX-MT 6), King Clancy (PSA NM 7) and Aurel Joliat (PSA EX 5) while the rest of the graded contingent includes the likes of HOFers Sweeney Schriner and Neil Colville, who have both earned marks of NM 7, as well as Charlie Conacher and Lynn Patrick, who both have been assessed marks of EX 5. For the rest of the cards, remaining in raw ungraded form, a trio of cards seen as being in the scope of NM condition lead the way and include the cardboard of Art Wiebe’s RC, Baldy Northcott and Larry Aurie while cards of Harold Jackson, Earl Robinson, Ebbie Goodfellow (HOF) and Buzz Boll are viewed as falling in the range of EX-MT and Jimmy Fowler RC, Al Murray RC and Bill McKenzie all fall into the vicinity of EX condition. For the rest of the set, eight (8) cards float around the neighbourhood of VG-EX condition and include the examples of 99-Shill RC, 100-Davidson RC, 102-Conacher (HOF), 107-Karakas RC, 108-Gallagher RC, 109-Shibicky RC, 110-Cain and 114-Desilets’ RC while the cards of Cy Wentworth and HOFer Red Horner are both viewed as being in G to VG condition. Lastly, cards perceived as being “authentic but altered” due to pieces of adhesive material placed over their upper reverses include the cards of 101-Apps RC (HOF), 106-Runge RC, 120-Cude, 124-Jackson (HOF), 126-Trottier, 127-Blinco and 132-Smith (HOF).
