On the eve of NHL superstardom, Howie Morenz enjoyed a successful final season of junior hockey in the OHA, scoring 28 points in just 10 games for the Stratford Indians in 1922-23. The legend would sign with the Montreal Canadiens at the conclusion of the season, accepting a three year deal with a hefty salary of $3,500 per year and a $1,000 signing bonus. This rare postcard features the 1922-23 Indians with Morenz. At the standard 3 1/2" x 5 1/2", the full squad is pictured on the ice, with Morenz front and center. Each player has his name written across his chest, with "Taken at arena Toronto" handwritten along the base. There is a bit of surface wear and minor warping throughout, along with a few indentations, bends and corner wear. Overall, the image displays beautifully. The postal reverse sports a bit of toning.
