Nicknamed “The Michelin Man” due the equipment he used being the same set from when he first moved to North America in 1991 to begin his NHL career with the San Jose Sharks, Latvian born goalie Arturs Irbe propelled the Carolina Hurricanes on an improbable run to the 2002 Stanley Cup Finals and was inducted into the IIHF Hall of Fame in 2010. Hailing from the late-1990s/early-2000s, we offer this stick used by Irbe while playing with the Hurricanes. A Sher-Wood SOP 530 model with “Archie” stamped over the shaft, the stick retains its original tape job of white over the knob, lower paddle and blade with white cloth over the upper paddle and handle. Exhibiting good game-use, numerous puck marks are seen throughout the entirety of the stick with red post paint transfer marks decorating the backside of the upper shaft and blade tape as well. Additionally, cracks can felt/seen under the tape on the edge of the paddle while the blade has cracking and wear to the underside as well the forehand side underneath the tape. Signed by Irbe with a bold black ink signature on the paddle that displays without issue, the stick comes originally from the personal collection of Michael Zigomanis with his signed LOA accompanying the piece.
