Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 5/2/2023
One of only two teams residing north of the border in the old six team National Hockey League and alongside the Montreal Canadiens the topic of debate as to who was really Canada’s team, the 1959-60 edition of the Toronto Maple Leafs saw the blue and white finish with a 35-26-9 record, good enough for second place in the league and after beating up on the Detroit Red Wings in the first round of the playoffs, set up a date with the Montreal Canadiens for Lord Stanley’s mug. Offered here, is this stick that has been signed by 15 members of the 1959-60 Maple Leafs. A generic wood stick sporting a Doug Laurie Sports stamp on the one side with additional “Left 5” stampings on the topside of the shaft, vintage black tape is found wrapped around the knob and blade. Remaining in good condition, wear of note includes light marks throughout the shaft and heel with a hairline crack and light chipping seen at the toe as well as strands of the fibreglass that have come loose and unraveled. Fifteen (15) have signed the stick including HOFers Tim Horton, George Armstrong, Frank Mahovlich, Johnny Bower, Allan Stanley, Dick Duff, Bob Pulford, Red Kelly and Bert Olmstead as well as Gary Ehman, Billy Harris, Ron Stewart, Bob Baun, Johnny Wilson and Gerry James (CFL HOF). All the signatures remain legible with some showing higher levels of fading than others. A COA from Frozen Pond will accompany the piece.
