Hailing from years that saw the Hamilton Tiger-Cats (1963 and 1965) and BC Lions (1964) win Grey Cups as the champion of the Canadian Football League, offered here are complete sets of 1963 and 1964 Topps CFL football cards as well as a near complete set (131/132) of 1965 Topps CFL.
Starting with the 1963’s, the 88-card set shows with a consistent grade range of EX condition with light corner wear, most of the key cards present higher. Led by EX to EX-MT range examples of 21-Coffey, 30-Faloney, 35-Zugar, 50-Jackson (light corner wear) and 68-Parker, those found more in the vicinity of VG-EX to EX include 31-Patterson (small top left corner ding), 34-Henley (bottom left corner ding + OC top-to-bottom) and 70-Shatto. Card #3 of Joe Kapp and #17 of Jerry Keeling (RC) fall around the scope of a respectable EX condition with Kapp’s example showing light corner wear. The checklist card, #88 in the set has been marked and presents as VG-EX condition while it should be pointed out that the cards of Keeling and Shatto have ink signatures penned to them but it is unclear as to if they are authentic or not.
The 1964 assembly is found to be in a fairly uniform condition scope of EX with some EX-MT examples as well. Once again consisting of 88 cards, the group is spearheaded by EX-MT range offerings of 3-Kapp and 68-Parker with EX to EX-MT vicinity cards of 30-Faloney and 31-Patterson not far behind. Card #21 of Tommy Joe Coffey is found in the range of VG-EX to EX condition with #50 of Russ Jackson around VG-EX shape. Cards 34-Henley and 35-Zugar are both around the proximity of EX condition while the two checklist cards, #23 and #88 respectively, are both marked with the latter in VG-EX to EX range with light corner wear and the other around VG, presenting with a crease.
Finally, the near complete set of 1965’s, missing only card #57 of Don Sutherin out of the 132-card checklist, is in an average condition scope of EX to EX-MT with most showing light corner wear while cards #’s 8, 58, 124 and 127 are lower grade examples. Led by the EX-MT range RC of #98 George Reed, those seen in the range of EX to EX-MT include # 55 Angelo Mossca and #110 Jack Parker. For those in the EX condition range, #51 Garney Henley, #59 Joe Zuger and #67 Bernie Faloney are the representatives joined in close proximity by 33-Coffey (VG-EX to EX – small top right corner ding), 12-Kapp (VG-EX – off-center on the back, top left corner ding) and 96-Lancaster (VG – small crease at top right). Checklist #60 is found to be in the range of VG-EX to EX and unmarked while its counterpart at #132 is closer to EX while also being found unmarked. Of note, card #67 of Bernie Faloney has an ink signature over the front though it is unclear as to whether or not it is his autograph. A wonderful lineup of CFL cardboard sure to be pleasing to our lucky winning bidder.
